It says on the banner of this page: "The Greatest Franchise in Sports History". What is meant by this? Being very interested in sports, I am always looking to further my knowledge into the subject.

Well, the Yankees are arguably the best sports franchises in the world in terms of championships, wins, popularity, and the business aspect of it (ticket/merchandise sales and money made.)

Exactly as mpatel said. The Yankees have won a total of 26 championships. More than any north american franchise in all sports. The New York Yankees logo has become a symbol. Almost everyone who buys fitted caps has several Yankee hats.

You can find masses of Yankee's fans every where you go all over the world. The only other team that can probably say that is maybe the Boston Red Sox.

Don't kill me for mentioning their name here :D

Yep, those Yankee caps are everywhere. When I was young, I didn't even know what the NY logo represents but I did buy a wallet with that logo on it. Well, it was because a lot of my friends have stuffs with that logo especially caps.

Wallstreeterww, you got that right. I was in New York during the four World Series wins in the late 90's as well as the two losses against the Marlins and Diamondbacks and the atmosphere is amazing during those times. It is hard to describe in words, but everyone is just excited and really into it.

Mpatel, you lucky guy:), I left new york in 1978, but i left with great baseball memories that will always stay with me.
All i remember was REGGIE-REGGIE-REGGIE when he hit those 3 homers in one world series game, and the people at the maltshop right below our apartment went into berzerk party mode (new york style lol).
    Ahhhh the memories:(

Yea, those four World Series runs were also great. I too left New York (in 2002) and I miss some of those moments. I still visit New York sometimes, and hopefully if we make the World Series this year I'll be able to head up there during that time.

Lucky you Mpatel, i got a huge project to complete first then i might make a summer trip there but i cant make it during the winter as i cant stand the cold anymore like I used to. I wish good ole george would spend more time focusing on pitching then hitting. Hopefully they will pickup another veteren arm down the stretch.

I never knew either.. I guess the yankees have a lot of money to spend so they target good players and spend the money on them.. I guess its worth it in the end when they win.
